Creating Awareness: Homeless & Hungry

Many of us cannot imagine what it is like to grow up without a roof over our head, but our charities see children in this situation everyday. Our local media has been shining the light on critical issues in our community. We are proud to share. The Northwest Florida Daily News published an article about children in school dealing with homelessness. Take a minute to read. The Okaloosa Walton Homeless Continuum of Care works daily to end homelessness, and they see families struggle first hand. They see 40% of the homeless population in our area under the age of 18. Food For Thought delivers backpacks full of food to kids at schools, and many of those children are homeless. The Emerald Coast Magazine recently published a piece on hunger in paradise. Children in Crisis provides a home to children who are abused, abandoned or neglected. Shelter House provides a bed and a roof for children who leave an abusive situation. Habitat for Humanity builds homes for those who otherwise would fall further behind by renting when possible, or continue to bounce around from house to house, never with a home to call their own. We encourage you to read these articles, share them, talk to your families, your children about these issues and create awareness for very real, very detrimental issues that are happening right here.
