Vintner Spotlight: Ted Henry of Clos Du Val
Located in the Stag’s Leap district of Napa Valley, Clos du Val Winery was established in 1972 by two French winemakers, John Goelet and Bernard Portet. Covering 350 acres in California, Clos du Val has been known since its inception for its exceptional productions of Pinot Noirs, Cabernet Sauvignons, and Chardonnays.
At the heart of the wine production is Ted Henry, Clos du Val’s remarkable Winemaker. Bringing with him over 15 years of winemaking experience, Ted has led the vineyard through a transition to greater ripeness, more mid palate depth, and greater tannin integration in their wines. This vibrant shift has led Clos Du Val to produce some of the finest wine in their history.
A Californian native, Ted grew up in the San Francisco Bay area on a family ranch. This early exposure to agriculture and farming science led Ted to attend UC Davis, where he studied enology and viticulture while obtaining a degree in fermentation science. Following his graduation from the university, Ted, already reputable as a talented winemaker with a gifted palate, quickly rose through the ranks in the world of wine. He became the winemaker at Jarvis Estates in Napa Valley in 2008, working alongside famed winemaker Dimitri Tchelistcheff, and was named Clos Du Val’s winemaker in 2016.
Ted originally became involved in the Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation while working as the winemaker at Jarvis, and continues his personal partnership with us under Clos Du Val. Along with attending the 2018 Wine Auction, he will also be the participating vintner at a Patron Dinner, pouring glasses of his vibrant and elegant wines served with dishes prepared by celebrity chef Scotty Schwartz.
